As I write this, I’m sitting in Tulum, Mexico on a reward trip my husband, KC, earned through his work. I’m incredibly proud of him, and beyond that, I’m just grateful to be here together. The sun is shining, the ocean is turquoise, and for a few precious days, we’re away from work, laundry, kids’ schedules, and all the daily “stuff” that tends to swallow our time and energy. And what’s standing out to me most isn’t the beach or the fantastic pools or the luxury of the resort… it’s how easy it is to forget what it feels like to just be together. Not coordinating logistics. Not solving problems.
Just us. It’s reminded me how easy it is to get stuck in the busy routine of life - and forget where it all started. The calendar fills up. Weeks turn into months, and sometimes, we can’t remember the last time we really connected on something deeper than “what’s for dinner?” This was so true for KC and me, especially when our kids were younger and life was a little crazier. But whenever we would go on a trip together - just the two of us - it wouldn’t take long before I was thinking to myself, “Oh yeah… THIS is why I love him!” Because we can forget sometimes… and it doesn’t mean the love isn’t there, it just means we may need to be reminded. So here’s the thing:
You don’t have to go to Mexico to reconnect with your partner.
You don’t have to plan a big, expensive getaway.
But you do have to make time. Because if you’re not in the habit of spending intentional time together, that absence becomes the norm. It becomes more comfortable to stay busy, to avoid, to co-exist. And the longer that goes on, the harder it gets to reach for each other again. So this week, I want to challenge you: 🗓️ Make a plan. Not a dream. Not a "someday." A real, scheduled plan. Book a babysitter for two weeks from now. Block off a Saturday morning coffee date. Plan an overnight somewhere close by. Or simply schedule an hour one evening to sit outside together, no phones, and talk.
Don’t wait for it to be perfect. Don’t wait for it to be easy.
Just start somewhere. Because connection doesn’t just happen - it’s created. On purpose. With practice. And honestly? Once you start creating it again, you might remember just how good it feels to be “us.” Here’s to carving out space for the relationships that matter most… whether in paradise or your own backyard. With love and belief in you,
