As promised, here we are on a Thursday together! And I’m so excited because today’s newsletter lines up perfectly with the release of a brand-new episode of Relating with Jen Funk. 🎉 This week I’m trying something new on the podcast: an Ask Jen episode where I answer the real questions you’ve been sending me. (Thank you!) And let me tell you - these are so good because if you are wondering about something, chances are a whole bunch of other people are too. Here’s a peek at what I’m answering this week: “Separate bedrooms - is it the beginning of the end?” “How can we feel more connected when our schedules are crazy busy?” “Is it normal to want more alone time in marriage?”
But if you don’t have time to listen today, and you want something you can implement in your own relationship right away, I’m going to share one of the most powerful tools I share with couples who feel more like “roommates” than partners: the weekly check-in meeting. I’d suggest picking a day and time (Sunday afternoon/evening may be good?) that you can be consistent with each week. Put that time on the calendar and lock it in! This will be a quick check in - just 15–20 minutes - that allows you to cover the logistics of the week (like who is cooking dinner?!). And after you cover logistics, the really good stuff happens when you ask these questions: What’s one thing you’re looking forward to this week? What’s one thing you’re stressed about? What’s one way we can carve out time for each other?
So that’s it. Just a few quick questions. When you both know what’s ahead - and how to support each other - the week feels less chaotic and more like you’re on the same team. And having a weekly plan of when you will spend time together makes it much more likely to happen. I go deeper into this in today’s episode of the podcast, along with how to navigate separate bedrooms without losing intimacy and why wanting alone time is actually really normal. Here are the links so you can give is a listen!
